MBL23 BEYOND THE CRAFT
BEYOND THE CRAFT, by Keith Jackson
New revised 5th edition with colour illustrations. A guide book that details Masonic Orders beyond the Craft that are still worked in England and Wales.
The Author - "My masonic readers have overheard those engrossing snippets of conversation that seem to occur so frequently at the festive board of a Craft lodge where reference is made to the ?Mariners?, ?the KT? or ?the Cryptic?. Enquiry is rewarded with the explanation that they are other degrees, but generally there is little further information forthcoming and one is left with a feeling of awakened, yet ungratified curiosity. This book attempts to produce a condensed, yet comprehensive text of information regarding the various masonic orders at work in England today."

MBL43 COMMITTED TO THE FLAMES
COMMITTED TO THE FLAMES, by Arturo Hoyos
The History and Rituals of a Secret Masonic Rite
Between 1826 and 1884, Dr. Robert. B. Folger (1803-1892), a physician and Masonic historian, wrote at least three manuscript ritual books, two of which were in an obscure and virtually impenetrable cipher. Folger, who had a penchant for controversy, was concealing the fact that he was trying to import the "Rectified Scottish Rite" (also called the R.E.R. or C.B.C.S.) into the United States. The R.E.R. was well-known as a European offshoot of the mysterious Rite of Strict Observance, which claimed that freemasonry descended from the Knights Templar.
For the first time, all of Folger’s ritual manuscripts have been deciphered in full. This dramatic and important book presents the full ritual contents of the earliest known English-language version of the R.E.R.’s Craft degrees, as well as Folger’s complete transcriptions of the Scottish Rite (Rose Croix) Craft ritual, with its installation and table ceremonies, and all seven degrees of "Egyptian masonry" (Pastophor, Neocoris, Melanophir, etc.), plus extracts from the American Order of the Red Cross and Knight Templar degrees.
The authors’ introduction places these degrees in their historical context, which occurred during the most turbulent period of Masonic history. Included is the cryptanalysis of Folger’s ciphers and biographies of the principals. Folger was a man of curious contradictions; a passionate Mason, he was twice expelled from Grand Lodge, and yet died a Mason in good standing.
Join renowned Masonic historian and expert code breaker S. Brent Morris as he teams up with Arturo de Hoyos, the world’s foremost authority on Masonic rituals, on a journey to break the code and solve the secrets of Folger’s mysterious manuscripts.

MBL53 COMPASSES AND THE CROSS
COMPASSES AND THE CROSS, by Stephen Dafoe
In the Compasses and the Cross, Stephen Dafoe, the author of Nobly Born: An Illustrated History of the Knights Templar, traces the origins and evolution of the Masonic Knights Templar from their beginnings in the middle of the eighteenth century to its present form.
Through the course of the book, Dafoe draws on his knowledge of the history of the original Order as well as that of the modern Masonic variant. Individual chapters will examine the various myths connecting the Templars and Freemasonry put forth by eighteenth and nineteenth century Freemasons including James Anderson, Andrew Michael Ramsay and Baron von Hund, as well as Scottish Freemasons such as William Alexander Lawrie and the Chevalier James Burnes. In addition to separating historical fact from masonic tradition, Dafoe also chronicles the differences in Masonic Templarism as it exists in Britain and the Dominion with that of the United States.
An excellent and thought provoking addition to the existing information on the Knights Templar which will be essential reading for all Masons and general readers with an interest in this subject area.

MBL213 NOBLY BORN
NOBLY BORN, by Stephen Dafoe
The Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ and the Templar of Solomon, popularly known as the Knights Templar, was the most famous and infamous of the crusading military orders. Created in the aftermath of the First Crusade,(1096-1099) the Templars were established to ensure the safety of the large numbers of European pilgrims, who flowed towards Jerusalem after its conquest.
The Templars were an unusual Order in that they lived both an active and contemplative life; making them effectively the first warrior-monks in the western world. As such the Templars quickly expanded beyond their role as protectors of pilgrims and played a vital role in many battles of the Crusades.
Although they suffered more defeats than celebrated victories, the Templars are remembered as Christendom's most fearless military force.
Through innovative financial techniques that could be considered the foundation of modern banking and the use of a well established network of land holdings, the Templars in many ways resembled today's multi-national corporations. The Order's highly organised infrastructure, coupled with influential patrons, allowed the Order to gain great wealth and power in a relatively brief period of time.
This rise in power and prosperity continued until the Templars ran foul of King Philip IV of France, who arrested the Templars on October 13, 1307 on a variety of heretical charges. Philip had the Templars tortured in order to extract confessions of guilt and many of their number were ultimately burned at the stake. Under the influence of King Philip, Pope Clement V disbanded the Order on March 22, 1312.
In Nobly Born: An Illustrated History of the Knights Templar, noted expert Stephen Dafoe explores the Order from its origins through to its dissolution, set against the complex political and sociological backdrop that was the middle ages; a period of history where enemies could become allies at the drop of a hat.

MBL283 SECRET SCIENCE OF MASONIC INITIATION
SECRET SCIENCE OF MASONIC INITIATION, by Robert Lomas
In Turning the Hiram Key, Lomas the Scientist wrote about the Psychology, Biology and Dramatology of the Craft. He investigated brain states, the chemicals of emotion and the dramatic urges of ritual. It was a book of modern science applied to a ancient tradition.
The Secret Science of Masonic Initiation is different and revelatory. In it Lomas the Freemason speaks directly to the souls of his brethren. Jonathan Black sums up the change when he says, “The opening of this new book announces a deep and solemn change in Robert Lomas as a writer and as a man. Something has happened to him.”.
Lomas admits this book is intentionally mystical. "I ask my readers temporarily to set aside science and to listen, as a child, to the ancient teaching of the Craft as it shows you how you might know yourself. This book will take you on an imaginative journey deep into that inner part of your consciousness that Freemasonry calls your soul."
Not since the glory days of Wilmshurst, Ward and Waite has any serious Masonic writer attempted to look at the Meaning of Masonry in such knowledgeable depth Freemasonry has a deep purpose which can be overlooked in the rush of the modern world. Its ritual says it is a high and serious subject. But how can an individual discover the truths it outlines? How do you become an Initiate and a Master? A new, spiritually-aware generation is asking this question and demanding answers. This book responds in an unexpectedly visual way. Using words and images it leads you through the spiritual stages of Masonic knowledge.
The Craft teaches that each new Apprentice shall find a teacher to gain instruction. The open Lodge is not the place for instruction but a place for living out truths which should be taught privately by contemplation of symbols. Robert Lomas has spent thirty years as a University teacher, and twenty years studying Freemasonry and its ritual. In this book he shares his personal insight into the Craft, explains his understanding of its ritual and outlines the steps a Mason must take to find self-knowledge. His words are illuminated by the unique symbolic drawings of two masters of Masonic Tracing board design.
The purpose of Freemasonry is to help its members become Initiates in the science of Life. If you want to know yourself, then Freemasonry offers a path to that knowledge. It is a spiritual adventure, fit for the athletic and adventurous mind. The Secret Science of Masonic Initiation reveals that path.

MBL353 THE WARRIORS AND THE BANKERS
THE WARRIORS AND THE BANKERS, by Alan Butler
In The Warriors and the Bankers, the research and writing team of Alan Butler and Stephen Dafoe bring their combined experiences to bear on the question asked for hundreds of years, What became of the Knights Templar? Arrested in 1307, dissolved in 1312 and executed by 1314, the Templars have been the subject of many theories concerning their possible survival. This book examines these theories against new evidence and information. Additionally the authors put forth, for the first time, a completely NEW theory that has caught the ears, eyes and attention of many readers. The ultimate conclusion is that the Templars did survive, virtually intact and that in a very direct sense, they may still be one of the most potent forces at work in the world at the start of the new Millennium. The Warriors and the Bankers is eminently readable and is intended for both the serious student of Templarism or simply the interested observer.

MBL363 TRACING BOARDS OF 3 DEGREES
TRACING BOARDS OF THE THREE DEGREES IN CRAFT MASONRY EXPLAINED, by Julian Rees
Although all Freemasons will be familiar with the Tracing Boards - painted or printed boards developed in the early years of Freemasonry which are used in Lodges to illustrate Masonic symbols during lectures - little has been published on them. Haunch’s book, Tracing Boards: Their Development and their Designers, has been in print for over 40 years but is primarily an historical treatise. The Tracing Boards are an essential part of the three Craft Degrees in the way they illustrate the allegories and symbols used. There is no publication which adequately explains the Tracing Boards, their use and the meaning of their symbolism, and this book fills that gap in the market. The first part of the book will give a history of the development and use of Tracing Boards; the book then concentrates on explaining the role of the Tracing Boards in the First, Second and Third Degrees, and the specific symbolism of the Board used for each. Detailed descriptions of the Boards are given, particularly those used in the three degrees by the Emulation Lodge of Improvement, known as the Harris Boards, which contain the elements of most of the Tracing Boards used in lodges throughout Britain. The book is attractively illustrated to show the variety of historical and colorful Tracing Boards throughout the world.
