Mission
Statement
Philosophy
The Boalt Chapter of the American Constitution Society advocates a
progressive legal philosophy. We promote an expansive interpretation
of the Constitution based on the ideals of its language, not the constraints
of the past. For as society matures, so should the laws that govern
it.
Goals We aim to foster and shape the debate over jurisprudence
and legal policy, as well as the values for which they stand. We intend
to promote individual civil liberties over state supremacy; human
rights over corporate prerogatives; respect, equality and diversity
over intolerance, discrimination and homogeneity; and the right of
all generations to enjoy the environment over the ability of the present
generation to destroy it. We will work to give a voice to the silenced,
justice to the powerless, and opportunity to the oppressed.
