Founded in 1911 as the New Utrecht Infirmary, they merged with Beth Moses and Israel Zion hospitals in 1947 to become Maimonides Medical Center. The Medical Center is named after Rabbi Moshe Ben Maimon, the 12th century philosopher who established the concept of medicine as a natural science and authored ten medical books that set forth the foundation of modern medical training of physicians. Retaining their origins as a community hospital, Maimonides has grown in every way, including the number of clinical specialties, the size of our facilities and the number of patients they serve.

Cardiac/Surgical Intensivist Reporting to the Chief, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the Intensivist is accountable for the direct care and observation of care in an 11-bed ICU with an 80-90% occupancy rate and 3.5 average length of stay. Maimonides Medical Center has an average of approximately 700 heart procedures per year. Responsibilities · Review patients’ pathology reports, any lab data and their nutrition reports, maintaining constant communication with ICU nurses and caregivers. · Monitor admission and discharge criteria · Supervise staff of 7 NPs and PAs · Establish and implement care protocols · Participate in medical center committees · Develop a leadership system that assures organized systematic care · Provide leadership to an ICU care team that assures continuous improvement · Ensure efficient and timely delivery of services within a system of care · Maintain a safe and orderly environment for patients, families and staff · Provide instruction where appropriate for Residents Qualifications · MD from an accredited medical school. · Current license to practice medicine in New York State · Physicians board certified in Anesthesiology or Surgery who have completed training programs required for certification in the subspecialty of Critical Care Medicine but are not yet certified in this specialty · Strong analytical, prioritization and negotiation skills. · Delegates effectively and develops in others the willingness to work toward common objectives. · Ability to communicate effectively · Intelligence, creativity, integrity, good humor and a high level of energy. · Excellent advocacy skills coupled with the ability to demonstrate tenacity and resilience in the face of political pressure and bureaucratic resistance. · Ability to inspire trust, organize people in a team, and motivate them to work together.
